Back then, office environment is set to be strict and less fun in order to maximise productivity. However, a study from the last two decades revealed that workplace that adopt fun activities can actually make employees happier and more satisfied with their jobs. The study showed that fun workplace directly affects job satisfaction, task performance, and interpersonal citizenship behaviours. Affected by fun activities, it then increase employee’s performance and interpersonal job satisfaction.

CIPHR, on the other side, also revealed some benefits of having fun games and activities at work. It mentioned that such programs will make happier employees become healthier. Also, having fun can actually improve communication and collaboration, breed creativity, attract audiences, encourage advocacy, and improve productivity. Hence, investing time and effort into making your workplace more enjoyable will bring positive benefits for employees, teams, and the whole organisation in general. By creating healthy and fun environment, your employees will wake up looking forward to coming to office and do their best instead of mumming of how much they hate going to work.

So, here are 5 ways of having fun in office you can implement.

Animal’s day at office

If your employees do love animals, it could be a great idea to hold such event. According to USC Dornsife, having a pet in workplace can reduce stress and nurture productivity. Bring your favourite dog to work, why not? To make it more fun, you can conduct an “animal’s (one) day” game as proposed by Sparks. You can invite team members to bring their pets to work, where a selected panel of pet owners and animal lovers decide which employees pets would make a great workday at office. Then, the selected pet spends a day at office while choosing another pet for the next animal’s day.

Just having fun game

Limeade, ranked as Entrepreneur’s Top Company Culture, has conducted a ‘just having fun’ game as to make the employees enjoy their working day. From walking meetings to colouring and puzzle stations, you can always have something to get employees out of their chair. And when you need to blow off steam, you can hop on razor scooter or start a nerf war. Ping pong or other 3x3 basketball and free dance are also good ideas that Limeade’s employees love.

Werewolf game

Werewolf game is suitable to loosen up employees’ brain after working hard. By casually accusing each other of being a blood-thirsty that has been killing villagers while they sleep, you can have fun together with your team. You can find the game rules here.

Eat poop, you cat

This game is quite fun to play. Another way to make employee’s laugh together as it is an essentially telephone pictionary. The game is conducted by each player who starts with a piece of paper and a pencil. Each player will write a sentence at the top of paper. Then, pass the paper to the left. The next player “draws” the sentence and folds the paper so only the drawing is visible. The next player looks at the drawing and writes a sentence to represent the drawing. Next, you need to pass it to the left and left until all players have their paper back. At the end, all players unfold their paper to see the original sentence. Until then you might write “I am the Walrus, koo-koo-ca-choo” but you might find your co-worker writes “Hitler and I danced the night away in a disco.”

Work karaoke

Everyone is a singer, either a bathroom singer or famous singer, right? Also, everyone enjoys singing together, so the best chance is to try work karaoke. Hack Reactor has implemented this and it is proved that employees enjoy it so much as they can have a good time together after work. However, to make it more fun, you can try random lip sync or singing. The rule is: there should be one person to initiate the game, he starts singing or do a lip sync style. After that, he should mention a name to continue the sing or lip sync. If the chosen person cannot do this, you can give consequences. You can set your own rule of the consequences.
